Science

Science Philosophy

I absolutely love science! While I was in elementary school I did not care too much for it, but in high school and in college I fell in love with science. The whole science process was fascinating to me. I enjoyed zoology because of the many dissections we had to complete. We had to work in groups so I was always the leader and I was the one who had to begin the dissections and end them. I also took many science courses while in college. I do not know which course I liked the best but all of them kept my interest and my attention.
I believe that I was so attentive and fascinated with science because of the hands on learning that was involved. I remember so much from my science classes because of the interaction that we experienced. There are many open ended topics in science and with that my future students can draw their own conclusions. They have the ability to succeed and try things out. I want my future students to step out of my classroom at the end of the year to remember what they learned and how they can apply it in the real world. Teaching is a calling in my life and I want to make a difference in each child’s life that I come across. Science is a lot of unknown and I want my future students to explore the unknown.

Teaching with Manipulatives

Science involves hands on learning, in my opinion. While I was in 5th grade, I taught two science lessons that involved a Gizmo and an art activity about the atmosphere. My first lesson, we explored mass, volume and density. Since the students knew about the basic concept of mass, volume and density, we discovered how to turn a solid into a liquid/gas using the Gizmo. Teaching with Art

As I stated before, science involves hands on learning. Since I enjoy being crafty, I like to involve my students to explore their creative side. My second lesson we learned about the Earth's atmosphere. We made a flip chart book that showed the 4 layers of the Earth's atmosphere. I also showed the students a power point of this lesson.Click Here to access the power point. Read more about my lesson plan here, Science Lesson Plan 2.

Experimenting with Science
Who does not like science experiments? I love them! I enjoy watching things bubble up and explode. This semester we had to make a science experiment. It was wonderful watching the many experiments. Safety first, put those goggles on! Click Here
